Director’s Statement – A brief from the Director, Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

The Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH), UNN had been working in conjunction with academic departments in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in giving Veterinary Council certified clinical training to veterinary students that will make world class veterinarians that shall be relevant in the animal health sector both locally and internationally. The VTH also renders robust veterinary services to the community and nation at large in fulfillment of the dreams of the founding fathers of the University of Nigeria, making maximum use of its highly qualified and experienced veterinary officers, consultants and facilities. The VTH stands out as a centre of excellence for the clinical training of Veterinarians and for the surveillance, diagnosis, treatment and control of animal diseases, through collaborative activities with relevant national and international bodies concerned with same. The World Bank-assisted strengthening of the Clinical Laboratory of the VTH under the Avian Influenza Control Programme had further made the VTH Clinical Laboratory a hub for research activities in the clinical and biomedical sciences. The current administration of the VTH continues to strive to uphold the culture of excellence in clinical training and veterinary service delivery which the VTH is known for and is further adding value to delivery on the core mandate of the VTH by collaborating with relevant national and international organizations in the provision of further training for staff, equipment and books.
