ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Veterinary Parasitology and Entomology is one of the foundational Departments of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. It attained the status of an independent academic Department in 1980 after existing as a Veterinary Parasitology unit in the Department of Veterinary Pathology between 1970 and 1980. The Department is made up of two academic units, namely, Parasitology and Entomology. The Department offers courses in Veterinary Helminthology, Protozoology, Entomology and Clinical Parasitology to undergraduate veterinary students, as part of the core courses needed to produce graduates of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM). The Department also offers Master of Science (MSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes in Veterinary Parasitology and Entomology as further training for Veterinarians who may want to specialize in the area these respective areas.
